Jack Spence- Where ya at?

Q. Where ya at right now?

A. Back home in wellington for summer

Q. Judging from your edit it looks like Keystone treated you well, how long did you ride there for?

A Yea Colorado was alot of fun, I was there for about 90days.. Just 4 hours short of becoming an over stayer from how I accidentally booked my flights haha

Q. Any really memorable days?

A Had so many good days on that trip, one of the filming days with my buddies Johnny, Devan and Parker was all time

Q. Really memorable parties?

A. Not really I didn’t have much money to party on that trip so we just had heaps of nights at our condo with our crew drinking Rum and talking alot of shit haha

Q. The front one that Tommy Pyatt shot we ran this year was sick, what went into getting that shot?

A. A really sketchy drop-in and a lot of slams, smoked my shoulder on that one but got it just in time before the light got shitty

Q. It also looks like you had a ripping season at Cardies this year how many days did you get in?

A. So many days ha I was up there working 5 days a week on Park Crew but rode almost everyone of my days off, we had that amazing run of good weather in August so I think I did about 27 in a row, I was real burnt out by spring

Q. Favourite feature in the park (at cardies)?

A. The Down Flat Downs always fun and the new Black tube was real good for trying new tricks, big jump line was on point too.

Q. Trick of the season?

A. Scariest was the gap bs3 on the DFD, had to go so fast and fully missed the rail my first try, luckily got it on the 2nd and didn’t have to do it again.

Q. Of course we have to ask the inevitable question, what happened with you injury ?

A. Just a bad decision really, I was sunrise shooting with Tommy Pyatt late in spring on the big air jump, snow was bulletproof but strangely slow so I wasn’t really feeling it but decided to hit it anyway. I slipped out on ice when I changed edge at the bottom of the takeoff and lost all my pop/combined with not enough speed and came up about 8 feet short of the knuckle. I leant backwards in the air and sacrificed my leg for my spine and snapped my tibia almost out of the skin and whip-lashed the top of the landing, not very ideal haha.

Q. How’s recovery going?

A. Actually really well, I’m walking around a lot and doing heaps of rehab everyday and lots of acupuncture. I’ve been told I’m far ahead of where I should be so that’s re-assuring

Jack Spence-Cardrona

Q. Worst thing about rehab?

A. Not being able to do anything for the first month sucks, and just being limited in general on what you can do, once you can walk again its pretty good

Q. Best thing about rehab?

A. Having an excuse to play a lot of video games

Q. What are your plans for next year?

A. Depending on how my leg goes might try sneak in a pow trip around march but thats pretty wishful thinking, then cardies again in June

Q. Shouts?

A. Bataleon, Oneill, Switchback, Sandbox, Rad/crab grab, capitahl, my fam and friends I ride with. Chur
