#19 Sept/October 1998

RIDER: Dylan Butt
LOCATION: Erewhon
PHOTOGRAPHER: Bridget Hall

Dylan Butt lands his first cover riding at Erewhon (Mt. Potts), and writes about his trip there along with Juliane Bray, Karl Soulos and Jason Pickelmann in “Expeditions Erewhon”. Dylan also features in “Trick Tip”, with a frontside inverted 540. “Cliff Notes”, among other tidbits, tells about Olly Burke’s 21st at Barrows. The “Aotearoa” photo spread includes shots of Dan Fountain, Dean’o Johnston, Rick Clairmonte, Glenn Jones, and Chris ‘Welly’ McKenzie. There’s a feature on Harro’s World Heli Challenge, including the Wanaka Big Air, which moves to Lismore Park and steps it up a gear. We interview Jake Burton himself, and also sit down with New Zealand’s most core snowboarding couple, Dean’o and Hayley. “Local Knowledge” looks at Mt. Hutt through the eyes of Roy Hawthorne, Karl Soulos, Trev Ponting, and Jeremy Caird. There are a bunch of comp reviews, and being one of the worst seasons in a long time, we also run a piece on “Global Warming”. There’s just one “Fast Forward” this issue, on Glen Leggett.
