It’s on… in Canterbury at least, and who should be right on it but the hardcore locals that have been shredding up there (since day one?) and round the globe for over 15 years. Hutt received 25 cm’s of ‘Japan’ powder on Sunday the 24th, and by all accounts nearly as good as it gets up there!.It’s fair to say Trev Ponting, Jeremy Caird, Ry-Dog Bluett, and Niels Ypelaar ( past Banked Slalom champ who sacrificed some turns to get behind the lens ) are ‘legends’ of our sport in NZ, they’ve all had numerous shots published in New Zealand Snowboarder, Trev and Ryan having grabbed a cover each! Doing it ‘Old School’ with no park in sight, just digging deep… wax anyone?
No one has more miles at Mt Hutt than Trev Ponting!… Whether it’s on his skate ramp down in Methven, or in the powder up the hill, it always clean and effortless!.Photo: Nielsc
Theres no off button with Ryan Bluett… by day he’s laying turns down and at night he’s layin’ down tracks & spinning beats as DJ ‘Ill-figz’!…Rumour has it he’ll be making an appearance at The Banked Slalom after-bash! Photo: Nielsc
Zen Master Jeremy Caird is no stranger to powder, having lived and worked in Japan for over a decade…probably quite stoked to see Hutt replicating his old haunting grounds in the Northern hemi right now! Photo: Nielsc
